XX. Hansesail und IV. Internationaler Bootsbauworkshop

Wenn man so will, ist die Hansesail eine große historisch-maritime Freilichtausstellung. Selten kommen so viele traditionelle Fahrzeuge an einem Ort zusammen wie zur Hansesail, selten hat der Besucher die Möglichkeit, mit der Fahrt auf so einem historischen Fahrzeug eine Zeitreise zu unternehmen, Geschichte hautnah zu erleben. Das tolle ist, dass er quasi sogar die Zeitepoche wählen kann, in die er reist. Von den mittelalterlichen Hansekoggen bis zu den Windjammern und Dampfschiffen des 19. und frühen 20. Jhrds. ist jede Zeit ganz besonders erlebbar. Wen wundert´s, dass unser Festival der Geschichte auch der Treffpunkt von professionellen Museumsmachern ist. Erstmals – und für unser Jubiläum besonders herausstellenswert – präsentieren sich die großen Schifffahrtsmuseen auf der Hansesail - und zwar in der Nähe des Museumshafens.
Darüber hinaus ist die XX.  Jubiläumshansesail Gastgeber des IV. International Historical Boatbuilding Workshops. Dieser führt seit 2007 Bootsbauer aus ganz Europa zusammen und nun erstmals auch in Rostock (www.lagomar.de). Wir bauen gemeinsam einen sogenannten Rostocker Kahn, der ganz exemplarisch den Übergang vom Einbau zum Plankenboot aufzeigt. Jeder der Lust hat, ist eingeladen mit Hand anzulegen, denn das Boot soll ja schließlich auch am Ende der Veranstaltung zu Wasser gehen. Wir wissen, wie es um die Handwerkertraditionen momentan bestellt ist, insofern würde es uns freuen möglichst viele Menschen anzusprechen, besonders unser jüngstes Publikum, für die wir einige Überraschungen präsent haben!
Unsere Schiffe sind daher nicht nur touristische Ereignisse, verbunden mit der Sehnsucht nach Meer und einer wundervollen Kulisse für unsere geschichtsträchtige Hansestadt. Diese Fahrzeuge darf man auch als Sinnbild einmaliger Handwerkerkunst bezeichnen. In kaum einem anderen, mobilen Objekt sind derartig unterschiedliche Handwerke vertreten, wie bei unseren Schiffen. Das wollen wir durch diese Veranstaltung in Kooperation mit den großen Weiterbildungsgesellschaften unserer Stadt zum Ausdruck bringen.

Auf den Bootsbauworkshop sind folgende Gewerke und Techniken zu erleben:

1. Bootsbau (Dampfkasten, Dechseln, Schmiegen, Mastbau etc.) 2. Schmiedekunst (Beschläge, Nägel) 3. Segelmacherei (Zurichten, Besäumen, Färben etc.) 4. Reepschlägerei, Seilerei 5. Netzmacherei


Wir wollen demnach einen kleinen Beitrag mit unseren Partnern für den Erhalt dieser z.T. kunstvollen Fertigkeiten leisten. Unser Anliegen ist es vorallem einen Erfahrungsaustausch zu ermöglichen, sind doch auch die hier beschriebenen Traditionen auch oral weiter gegeben worden.
Der Workshop findet am Museumshafen statt und zwar vor der Kulisse von kleineren Hafffahrzeugen aus Schweden, Litauen, Polen und Deutschland. Boote die schon im Kontext mit derartigen Bootsbauworkshops entstanden sind. Zur Mitfahrt wird eingeladen.

IV. International Workshop in Historical Boatbuilding Techniques

Between the 7th and 9th of August 2010 boatbuilders, craftsmens of related subjects, historians and archaeologists will discuss the surviving of authentic methods in wooden boatbuilding. By working together on a typical Rostocker boat, called „Rostocker Kahn“ we would like to share ideas and the common interest for the surviving of old handcraft methods in wooden boat building with you and demonstrate these ideas to the audience of the XX. Hansesail.Wooden boats and ships as a specific symbol of dynamic architecture determine a special sign and outcome of the interaction of men and the sea. Wooden boatbuilding marks on a remarkable compilation of different handcraft methods and stays for an object related intelligence. Wooden boats and ships as a floating architectural assembly reflect and symbolise the high value and level of different forms of craftmanship in a special time frame. Through technisation of processes, started in times of the industrial revolution, we becam e more and more an initiator of processes than to effect as an actor. In my opinion this went along with the fact, that our hands „get lost“ as a main media for communication. And again this went along with the loss of an object related communication! I think, human beings speak with each other also through the creation of items: The colour of pots, the form of a neckless, the structure of our clothes function as a non verbal communication and are of the same importance as a language – methods and strategies in wooden boatbuilding certainly belong to it. The dominance of things create our culture. We are so to speak „handmade“. The development from hand to head in the nowerdays working life marks on a tremondous change also in cultural life. In Germany 12 % of the apprenticeship openings could not be adopt by young people! With our workshop we would like to confirm people who are engaged in the practise of old handcraft methods in wooden boatbuilding in Europe and work for the reassurance of craftmanship in our society. Klucz Niedamir - Christening the replica of an early-medieval boat

- Christening and launch of the "Klucz Niedamir"
- The launch will be accompanied by boat cruises, old crafts show, performance of
  the early-medieval music group Pecival, and a snack.

More on the "Klucz Niedamir":

The international Lagomar project (Interreg IIIb) was coordinated by  the
University of Rostock. In the project took part partners from  Lithuania,
Russia, Germany and Poland.

The boat, which was constructed as a part of the project, was built on  the
basis of the relicts of ther boat from the 9th century, found in  Kamien
Pomorski.  The remains of the antique boat are in the National Museum of
Szczecin.  Having measured and examined the boat using the laser, the boat has
been reconstructed.  The replica was made in Torgelow and built by the
employees of Ukranenlad - the Slavonic open-air museum.  The boat is 12m
long and made of oak wood.  The linen sail has been sewn by hand in the Slavs
and Vikings' Centre in Wolin.  The surface of the sail has 35 square
metres.  The boat will be used for historical and experimental cruises.
